As a student of zoology at Loyola College, Chennai, I appreciated the diverse complexity of life from the single celled protozoans to the metazoans with well organised cellular architecture. It got me interested in understanding the molecular signatures that led to the evolution of such complex life forms. To pursue this interest of mine, I did my masters in molecular biology from University of Madras. It was during my master’s dissertation that I understood the advantages of zebrafish as a model organism where in I studied the psychoactive and teratogenic effect of ethanol on zebrafish with special emphasis on elucidating the role of calcineurin b gene in addiction and embryogenesis. My work at CSIR-IGIB, Delhi aimed at elucidating the role of noncoding RNAs in cardiovascular development and identifying the endothelial transcriptome of the developing zebrafish vasculature.

Currently, I am working on identifying the flow regulated enhancer elements and the effect of blood flow in the development and patterning of the vasculature.
