The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the largest funding organisation in the world supporting the international exchange of students and scholars. It runs over 250 programmes, through which it funds more than 55,000 German and foreign scholars worldwide per annum. The “Leopoldina-Postdoc-Stipendium“ (Postdoc Funding) is granted to junior scientists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland who have demonstrated outstanding scientific excellence. To be eligible, post-doctoral fellows must be younger scientists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland working on natural sciences or medicine. They should possess an independent research profile and, if successful, will receive funding for research at a leading research institute, normally abroad. Fellows from Austria and Switzerland have to conduct their research in Germany.

Every year the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grants approximately 600 Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers of all nations and discplines. A Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral researchers allows you to carry out a long-term research project (6-24 months) you have selected yourself in cooperation with an academic host you have selected yourself at a research institution in Germany.

The German National Academic Foundation ('Deutsche Studienstiftung') is the largest and oldest organization sponsoring the academically gifted in Germany. As a non-political and non-denominational organization, it forsters exceptionally gifted students and PhD students, who qualify by their level of performance, their broad interests, their tolerant personality and their social responsibility.
