"Business Breakfast" at the Max Planck Institute
Entrepreneurs obtained microscopic view on research
The directors Professor Dr. Ralf Adams and Professor Dr. Hans Schöler informed approximately 150 representatives of münster-based economy on current research topics and plans of the institute. They explained how knowledge on blood vessel growth can give rise to new therapies and how stem cells can be obtained to investigate diseases. In this context, Hans Schöler called the attention to the project CARE, which is to be supported by the State of NRW and the Federal State with 80 Mio. euros in total. In the "Center for Advanced Regenerative Engineering", the outcome of stem cell research from the Max Planck Institute shall be transferred to applied drug discovery. During the Business Breakfast, the guests could have a microscopic glance in the world of cells.
The Business Breakfast of the Wirtschaftsförderung Münster GmbH has grown to be a firm and substantial event. Approximately 150 executives of manufacturing enterprises, selected service companies and economically focused institutions regularly attend the meeting to exchange experience and make new contacts.

Special award of the Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation for Münster-based Max Planck junior researcher Boris Greber
Greber receives special award for research on a rare genetic disease of the heart
The Eva Luise and Horst Köhler Foundation for People with Rare Diseases decided to honour the Münster-based junior researcher at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Molecular Biomedicine, Boris Greber, with a special award. The presentation takes place within the frame of the ceremony for the Eva Luise Köhler Research Award on February 28, 2011 in Berlin. The special award is endowed with a prize money of 15,000 Euros to the benefit of Greber's research project on a Rare Disease of the heart.

Honour for Max Planck director Hans Schöler
The Münster-based stem cell researcher was appointed corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz
With the election to become a corresponding member of the Academy of Science and Literature, Mainz in their Plenary session on February 18, the academy is honouring Hans Schöler for his excellent achievements in stem cell research and his social-political involvement.
