Long Night of the University Medicine Münster at the MPI Münster

Immerse yourself in the fascinating three-dimensional world of cells and organs and join us in uncovering the secrets of life!

In 2025, Münster University Hospital will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a Long Night. On 12 September, from the afternoon until late in the evening, doors will open to offer exciting insights into research and clinical practice, hands-on activities to try out, and the people who work every day to look after your health.
Due to our institute's connection with Münster University Hospital, we will be celebrating together with other institutions on our campus and cordially invite all interested parties to the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., we will be there for you with an exciting programme!

Using state-of-the-art virtual reality technology, you will enter the hidden world of cells, tissues and organs. Walk through glowing cell networks, explore the architecture of tissues and experience first-hand how researchers make the invisible visible.

In addition, there are several stations where you can gain insights for yourself:

• Learn how an embryo repairs itself during development – and see how researchers examine organ formation in real time under a microscope.
• Discover that bones are much more than just supports: their amazing structure and function become visible under the microscope.
• Take a look at your own hair roots and see how stem cells are cultivated as organoids in the laboratory – hair is transformed into fascinating mini models for research.
• Learn about the body's motorways. Take a look through the microscope at healthy and 'diseased' blood vessels in various organs and find out why they are so essential to our bodies.

Whether you are interested in biology or simply curious, this immersive journey is the ideal opportunity to talk to scientists from our institute and discover the hidden wonders of life at the microscopic level.

Our Max Planck Institute is located on Campus 2 and can be reached by shuttle service from Campus 1 (UKM). You can also use the car park behind our institute building. Bicycle parking spaces are located behind the white lecture hall of our building.
