Transgenic Laboratory

Transgenic, „knock-out“ and „knock-in“ mice have become indispensable tools in modern biology. The transgenic laboratory aids scientists of the institute in the generation of genetically altered mice by providing pronuclear and blastocyst injection services. In addition, the expertise of the transgenic facility is available for a number of applications aimed at the sanitation and preservation of valuable mouse strains, as well as the reduction of animal numbers in the colony. Transfer and cryopreservation of pre-implantation embryos, freezing of sperm and in vitro fertilization are among the routinely applied technologies.

In addition to the practical services, the transgenic laboratory provides help in planning of projects and advice on optimal sanitation and conservation strategies for the various mouse strains under investigation.
