MTZ®foundation enabled excellent high-school graduates an internship at the Max Planck Institute

Northrhine-Westphalian best candidates for the international Biology Olympiad gained unique insights

Already for the fourth time, the MTZ®foundation enabled the best candidates or participants of the international Biology Olympiad from Northrhine-Westphalia a one-week internship at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. This year, the high-school graduates Theresa Cavasin from Essen and Anna Kuntze from Oelde were the happy ones. They achieved the 6th and 8th position in the fourth and final selection round for this year's international Biology Olympiad. PD Dr. Gabriele Bixel planned and organized the internship and together with other colleagues of the institute she took care of the high-school graduates during the one-week visit. Anna Kuntze (18) will commence her studies of Medicine in Münster in October, Theresa Cavasin (19) will start studying Chemical Biology in Dortmund next month. Both interns were delighted to have the unique chance to get to know the Max Planck Institute in all its facets. "Gabi Bixel has arranged a very exciting program for us", say Cavasin and Kuntze. "This internship was very helpful to us, especially because it took place immediately before our studies", says Cavasin. "We got to know all departments, saw the works of the operation technology and in the animal facility, and were introduced to spectacular equipment. The fluorescence microscopes, the 2-photon-microscope, and the cell sorter were very impressive", says Kuntze. "Were are very thankful to Gabi Bixel and her MPI-colleagues and to the MTZ®foundation for this unique experience.“
